Apparently, some users have reported poor performance from the latest Ubuntu distribution with Intel graphics cards. This was not the case on my x300 equiped with an Intel Mobile GM965/GL960 Integrated Graphics Controller: with the distro's default xserver-xorg-video-intel glxgears had results around 750 FPS, (re)installing the oldest version 2.4 caused the glxgears scores to fall to approximately 230 FPS per sample interval...
Also the tweak around EXA/UXA had no effect on my config.
